Q: "My daughter is 12 and has type 1 diabetes. It seems that every time the wind blows she is sick again. She drinks tons of water and occasionally cheats but always takes her insulin. What could be causing her to constantly get sick with vomiting and ketones?"

A: I know this can be challenging, and naturally you can understand that I am limited via the internet in being able to determine what could be going on. However, I will provide some things to consider:

Start with your daughter's healthcare provider

Re-visit the diabetes educator and dietitian

Analyze the data management reports for missed doses and/or wide glucose swings

Consider counseling

I know this is a lot to consider. Hopefully by working with your diabetes team you will be able to uncover the cause of the problem.
