Karen Poenisch, RD, CD, CDE
Karen Poenisch, R.D., C.D., C.D.E. is a diabetes educator with 28 years of diabetes clinical experience. She has expertise in insulin pumps, continuous glucose sensors, data management, and diabetes management in the adult and pediatric population. Most recently, she was an insulin pump coordinator and diabetes educator at Indiana University School of Medicine, Riley Hospital for Children.
Karen is active in JDRF, creating a school nurse diabetes education program that is being replicated across the U.S. She is a board member of several diabetes professional organizations. Karen is sought after for speaking to health professionals and patients on topics related to new technology in diabetes. She was recently honored as “Diabetes Educator of the Year” for Indiana Central Association of Diabetes Educators.
Karen joined Abbott Diabetes Care as a Clinical Science Manager one year ago, where she shares scientific information and hopes to enhance diabetes care across the U.S. by sharing ways to use today’s technology. She is also involved in efforts to develop tomorrow’s technology to make it effective for patients and health care professionals. Karen has had Type 1 diabetes for 42 years and has been on an insulin pump for 27 years.
