GENERAL OVERVIEW
What is the CoPilot system?
The CoPilot system is a user-friendly, PC and Windows-based software application that permits people with diabetes, their healthcare team, and caregivers to upload data from the FreeStyle® family of meters, FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System and the Precision Xtra system into the CoPilot system.
The CoPilot system provides graphs and other software tools for people with diabetes and their healthcare professionals (HCPs) to help evaluate and analyze glucose readings, carbohydrate intake, and other diabetes-related lifestyle factors uploaded from devices or manually entered into the CoPilot system. The CoPilot system can help identify trends that can be used to improve glucose control.
What is the current version of the CoPilot system?
The current version of the CoPilot system is version 4.1, which can be installed by a home user or a health care professional (HCP). No other versions should be in use. If you are using an older version, please download the current version of the CoPilot system to access the latest features and ensure system compatibility with your meter.
How do I obtain the CoPilot system?
The CoPilot system can be downloaded for FREE on the website, and is also available by CD-ROM. To obtain a copy of the CoPilot system on CD-ROM, please call Customer Service at (888) 522-5226.
What is the price for the CoPilot Health Management System?
Both the CoPilot Health Management System and the CoPilot for FreeStyle Navigator System are available at no charge from Abbott Diabetes Care.
What glucose monitoring devices (meters) are supported by the CoPilot system?
The current version of the CoPilot system can upload data from the following systems:
- FreeStyle Lite® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- FreeStyle Freedom Lite® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- FreeStyle Flash® Blood Glucose Monitoring System

- The CoPilot for FreeStyle Navigator System will let you upload data from your FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System.
Please verify that you have downloaded the latest version of the CoPilot system to ensure compatibility with your meter.
Where can I find the CoPilot system user's guide?
You may download the CoPilot system user's guide from the website under the Owner's Guides section. Also, the CoPilot system user's guide is located on the same CD as the software. It is downloaded on to your personal computer (PC) during installation of the CoPilot system.
Is my data secure using the CoPilot system?
Yes. The CoPilot system has security features to ensure that your data cannot be read or changed by others without your approval. The CoPilot system uses passwords to prevent unauthorized use of the CoPilot system. Each CoPilot system user establishes a User ID and Password the first time they use the CoPilot system.
How can I receive support in downloading and using the CoPilot system?
In the United States the toll-free Customer Service line is (888) 522-5226. Customer Service is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The Data Management support specialists are available Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm coast to coast.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
What are the system requirements for the CoPilot system?
- Personal Computer with 400 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended (The software does not run on Apple® computers.)
- Internet connection or compact disc CD-ROM drive.
- Random access memory (RAM) of 128 megabytes (MB) or more.
- Available hard drive space of 30 MB.
- Microsoft® Windows® 2000, XP, or Vista operating systems.
- Monitor with 1024X768 or higher resolution.
- USB or Serial port, available 9-pin EIA-232 (also known as RD-232 or V.24) or appropriate adapter for a universal serial bus (USB) for glucose meter connection.
What are the Internet connection speed requirements for synchronizing data to the Host Server using the CoPilot system?
Best performance of the CoPilot system will be achieved with an Internet connection speed of 56K or above. Broadband access (DSL or Cable) is ideal when a large amount of data is being synchronized.
Are there any accessories that I need to have for uploading data to the CoPilot system?
A data cable is required to upload data from a FreeStyle® Meter or Precision Xtra® Meter to the CoPilot system. The cables listed below are available online at Diabetic Express or Mini Pharmacy for purchase.
- FreeStyle® Systems USB or Serial Data Cable (9 PIN Serial Cable) for all FreeStyle meters.
- Precision Link® Direct USB or Serial Data Cable (9 PIN Serial Cable) for all Precision Xtra meters.
If you require a Serial to USB adapter, the High Speed USB Serial Adapter USA-19HS manufactured by Keyspan is recommended. The model USA-19HS is available online for purchase from the Keyspan website.
If you are a FreeStyle Navigator user, an IOGear Bluetooth adapter is required to upload data from your Receiver into the CoPilot system. The IOGear Bluetooth adapter is available free of charge to FreeStyle Navigator users.
FreeStyle Navigator users can request an IOGear Bluetooth adapter when prompted during downloading of the CoPilot for FreeStyle Navigator system software or through Customer Service at (866) 597-5520.
Can I upload data from more than one device to my CoPilot system account?
Yes. For each CoPilot system account, you are able to upload data from more than one device (e.g. From both a FreeStyle meter and a Precision Xtra meter) and have the data combined in your account. After the first upload from a device, the system will thereafter automatically identify that device and associate it with the assigned user.
Can I use the CoPilot system on a network?
Yes. By installing a separate server setup program (CoPilot Health Management LAN Database Installer) you will be allowed to set up a CoPilot system database on a central computer (server) that will provide data access for one or more CoPilot system installations (clients) residing on other machines in a common network.
DATA ENTRY
How can data be entered into CoPilot system using a blood glucose monitoring system?
Data can be entered manually or by uploading from one of the supported Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) systems listed below:
- FreeStyle Lite® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- FreeStyle Freedom Lite® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- FreeStyle Flash® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- FreeStyle Freedom® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- FreeStyle® Blood Glucose Monitoring System
- Precision Xtra® Blood Glucose & Ketone Monitoring System
- CozMore® Insulin Technology System (via CoZmanager® import)
Will I need to select a user each time I perform an upload to the CoPilot system?
No. Once a device is uploaded it will associate the serial number of that device with that particular user unless you choose otherwise.
How is data handled by the CoPilot system if more than one reading for a particular event is logged in one time period, (e.g. 2 blood glucose readings Before Breakfast)? Will it be displayed as multiple tests for a specific time and will all entries be calculated into report graphs and statistics?
In the CoPilot system, all readings in a Time Period will be displayed and included in graphs and statistics, either with data points or averages.
DATA VIEWING
How am I able to view the data once it is stored in the CoPilot system?
Statistical and other calculations are automatically performed on the data, and the results are put into tables and graphs. A report is one or a set of these tables and graphs designed to present information helpful for health management.
You are able to view this data in a variety of different reports. These include:
- Diary List
- Glucose Modal Day
- Glucose Line
- Glucose Average
- Glucose Histogram
- Glucose Pie Chart
- Logbook
- Lab & Exam Record
- Statistics
- Daily Combination View
- Weekly Insulin Pump View
- HCP Group Analysis (HCP User Only)
Can I merge or import data from my current data management program into the CoPilot system?
A User can electronically import data into the CoPilot system from any of the following Systems by following the instructions accessed through its “Import” function:
- FreeStyle Connect Data Management System
- Precision Link® Direct Diabetes Data Management System (v2.5 and higher)
You can also import a *.tab or *.xml file after the file is specially formatted for the CoPilot system by following the instructions provided in the Import/ Export Guide.
Can I use the CoPilot system to do a quick upload and then print the results?
Yes. The CoPilot system does allow the option to print your selected Favorite Reports immediately after you upload your device. For a more detailed explanation, refer to the CoPilot system User's Guide.
DATA SHARING
Am I able to share my data from the CoPilot system?
Yes. The CoPilot system allows you to share your data in a variety of different ways. These include printing, faxing, emailing and also synchronizing your data with a data-secured host server maintained by Abbott Diabetes Care.
Can I export data from the CoPilot system to use in another format?
Data from the CoPilot system can be exported to a Tab delimited file (*.tab) or an XML file (*.xml), then imported into another program or format if desired. For instructions on how to export data, please refer to the CoPilot system Import/ Export Guide.
Can I delete data from the CoPilot system?
Data cannot be deleted in the CoPilot system, but it can be hidden so the data will not be included in all the reports except the Diary List report. For a more detailed explanation, refer to the CoPilot system User's Guide.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR FREESTYLE NAVIGATOR SYSTEM USERS
Do I need a Bluetooth Adapter? What is it used for?
The Bluetooth adapter is required to wirelessly upload data from your FreeStyle Navigator Receiver to the CoPilot system on your computer. If you don't have the recommended IOGear Bluetooth adapter Model GBU221, you may request one from Abbott Diabetes Care when you register for the CoPilot for FreeStyle Navigator system software or by contacting Customer Support at (866) 597-5520.
Can I use any Bluetooth adapter?
It may be possible to use other adapters, however some work better than others. We recommend using the IOGear Bluetooth adapter, Model GBU221. If you are experiencing any problems transferring data wirelessly, or if you would like to request an IOGear Bluetooth adapter, please contact Customer Support at (866) 597-5520 and they can help. I'm a FreeStyle Navigator System user, in what order should I install the software?
We recommend installing the software in the following order:

How is data entered into the CoPilot system using FreeStyle Navigator® System?
The FreeStyle Navigator system uses Bluetooth wireless technology to upload data to the CoPilot System. The IOGear GBU221 Bluetooth adapter is plugged into a USB port on your computer. The IOGear Bluetooth adapter transfers data wirelessly from your FreeStyle Navigator Receiver into the CoPilot system on your computer. If you are experiencing any problems transferring data wirelessly, please contact Customer Service at (866) 597-5520.
Indications and Important Safety Information for the CoPilot® System
for the FreeStyle Navigator® System
CoPilot® System for the FreeStyle Navigator® System Intended Use and
Application:
The CoPilot system is intended for use in home and clinical settings by
patients and healthcare professionals. It is intended to aid people with
diabetes and healthcare professionals in the review, analysis and evaluation of
information such as historical blood glucose test results, insulin dosages,
carbohydrate intake, and exercise data in support of an effective diabetes
health management program. It can be used with supported Abbott Diabetes Care
blood glucose monitoring systems, where data is uploaded, saved, analyzed,
displayed as charts, graphs and reports, printed, and shared.
Users should be aware that the CoPilot system is merely an information management tool – it does not provide diagnostic information, nor does it give advice on the management of diabetes, and it is therefore not intended to substitute for the support of a healthcare professional. Home users should always consult their healthcare professional if they have any queries or concerns about diabetes management.
The CoPilot Health Management System for FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CoPilot system for FreeStyle Navigator) allows data to be uploaded from the FreeStyle Navigator system to the CoPilot system, where it can be saved, analyzed, displayed as reports, charts and graphs, printed and shared.
Indications and Important Safety Information for the FreeStyle Navigator System
Safety Information:
Users should read all of the instructions in the User’s Guide before using the
FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System. Adjustments to
treatment should be done under the guidance of the user’s healthcare team.
Indications for Use:
The FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System is indicated for
continually recording interstitial fluid glucose levels in people (ages 18 and
older) with diabetes mellitus for the purpose of improving diabetes management.
Readings and alarms about glucose levels from the FreeStyle Navigator
Continuous Glucose Monitoring System are not intended to replace traditional
blood glucose monitoring. Before adjusting therapy for diabetes management
based on results and alarms from the FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose
Monitoring System, traditional blood glucose tests must be performed. The
FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System provides a built-in
blood glucose meter to confirm the continuous glucose result.
The FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System provides real-time readings, graphs, trends, and glucose alarms directly to the user. The FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System is intended to be used in home settings to aid people with diabetes in predicting and detecting episodes of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and in clinical settings to aid healthcare professionals in evaluating glucose control. The FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System is available only by prescription.
Contraindications:
The FreeStyle Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring System must be removed
prior to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Prescription Device:
Federal law restricts the sale of this device by or on order of a
physician.
Warnings/Precautions:
Infection, inflammation, or bleeding at the glucose sensor insertion site are
possible risks of inserting a sensor into your skin. If you believe your
results are not reliable, or are inconsistent with how you feel, perform a
blood glucose mode test to measure your glucose. If the problem continues,
discard the old sensor and insert a new sensor. Performance of the system under
conditions of fluctuating hydration levels such as during renal dialysis has
not been evaluated. Unintended dislodging of the sensor due to excessive
perspiration, exercise, or bumping, may cause unreliable or no results without
warning. Performance of the FreeStyle Navigator system has not been evaluated
in pregnant women.
